From the basic Halls of Residence type accommodation on campus with shared bathrooms, to larger rooms with en-suite bathrooms in new houses off campus. In all accommodation, fees include all utility bills. Our dedicated Student Services team will give students full assistance with finding accommodation in the local area. All international students studying in the UK have the right to work 20 hours per week in term time and 40 hours per week during the holidays. What assistance is provided? The University of Hertfordshire offers a student employment service to help students find part-time work. Students can expect to make enough money to help them with additional expenses such as sightseeing, entertainment and shopping but should have enough external funds to cover the basic cost of living. Students working part-time would normally expect to earn about £4- £5 per hour. What are key aspects of Hatfield/London? Eg. Food, weather, climate, entertainment. HIBT is located on the main campus of the University of Hertfordshire in the town of Hatfield, which has excellent shopping and recreational facilities and very good transportation links to the rest of the UK. Central London (Kings Cross) is only a 20-30 minute train ride from the local station, whilst by car you can easily connect to the London orbital motorway, the M25. Hatfield is a historical town, dating back to Saxon times. The Hatfield of today is a very modern town but Old Hatfield, at its heart, still retains a village feel. Until recently Hatfield was the Headquarters of British Aerospace and was where de Havilland developed the World’s first jet plane. The Hatfield aerodrome has since been redeveloped and now features a Business Park, which is home to many high tech and service industries, and the new University of Hertfordshire de Havilland Campus. The beautiful and lively city of St Albans is nearby and is a popular destination for students in their free time. Many of our students benefit from the facilities and nightlife available in the capital city. From World class museums, libraries, theatres and galleries to some of the most famous tourist attractions in the World. Being so close to central London, students can easily obtain food from all around the world. Climate in the south of England is moderate, but can get chilly in the winter-time. The temperature can go below 0 degrees in mid-winter but rarely. The average daytime temperature in the winter (December to February) is about 5 -10 degrees centigrade, in the Spring (March to May) is about 10 – 15 degrees centigrade , in the summer (June to August) is about 15 – 30 degrees centigrade and the Autumn (September to November) is about 10 – 20 degrees centigrade. |
